CMD SuperCPU Logo
This site is dedicated to all the owners of the Creative Micro Devices (CMD) SuperCPU accelerator for the Commodore 64 and 128. My goal is to maintain a source of up-to-date information about this great extension to the Commodore family of computers.

Welcome to my SuperCPU Wiki!

SuperCPU v1
SuperCPU v1
The SuperCPU was first introduced by CMD in May 1996, as the Super64CPU, or SuperCPU 64, or SuperCPU v1. It was followed shortly after by a SuperCPU 128 version, also referred to as SuperCPU v2. Basically, the SuperCPU upgrades the Commodore to a 16-bit WDC W65C816S processor running at a whopping 20 MHz, twenty times the original clock frequency of the C64. It was also bundled with an optional SuperRAM Card that could hold up to 16 MB of RAM. This was an amazing technical feat, and the SuperCPU release was preceded by enormous amounts of hype and expectations. Add to this the fact that the SuperCPU was only produced in very small quantities, and you obtain a device that has achieved cult status among Commodore fans.

Unfortunately, information about the SuperCPU is scattered around the Web in different forms: Web sites of course, but also text archives of old disk magazines, PDF scans of paper magazines, forum posts, USENET posts... Some of these sources are not maintained any more and risk disappearing one day or another.

My goal here is to try and centralize as much information as possible in an accessible form, e.g. essentially Web pages (in the form of this Wiki).

16MB SuperRAM!
Output of the SUPERRAMTEST program from the SuperCPU v2 utility disk.
I have finally found the proper type of "Fast Page" SIMM and my SuperCPU v2 is now working 100% with 16MB of SuperRAM! This configuration is necessary to run most of the really demanding SuperCPU applications, like Metal Dust or Wheels.
